HISTORY AND PLACES

Residenza dei Cavalleggeri is located on the Tuscan coast opposite the island of Elba near Populonia and the Gulf of Baratti. We offer many services to ensure that your holiday by the sea is pleasant. Centrally located for all the tourist spots of Tuscany, the hotel offers sea, relax and fun.
It’s also a great base from which to visit the cities of art such as Florence, Pisa, Siena and Volterra, or walking La Via degli Etruschi (the way of the Etruscans) among the greenery of the parks of this part of Tuscany. You can combine culture and the chance to “live” the taste and flavours of the cuisine of this land such as the olive oil and DOC wines of the Cornia Valley that many tours will introduce you to.

Tuscany, a region that combines beautiful natural scenery and a great historical-artistic heritage: Medieval villages, Romanesque churches, castles and Etruscan settlements. A stunning coastline made up of dense vegetation, Mediterranean maquis that descends to the sea and slopes of fine golden sand.
An archipelago of small islands: Gorgona, Capraia, Pianosa, Giglio, Giannutri, Montecristo and the better known island of Elba.
Elba can be reached from the port of Piombino (about 20 km from Residenza dei Cavalleggeri), or in high season directly from the port of San Vincenzo. We offer the chance to book bus excursions departing from the village to Rome, Florence and Elba.
The following areas are easily accessible by car: Castagneto Carducci (10 km), a medieval village and the ancient dominion of the Counts of Gherardesca.
Suvereto (18 km), one of the most beautiful villages in Italy with its splendid Palazzo Comunale (town hall) dating from the early 1200s. Terme di Caldana (8 km), a thermal spa centre offering mud and sulphurous water treatments. Rocca di San Silvestro (8 km), a village founded in the 10th century, part of the San Silvestro Archaeological Mining Park.
Populonia (10 km.), the ancient acropolis. Take in the wonderful views of the Gulf of Baratti below where you can also visit the extensive Etruscan necropolis.

Bolgheri (20 km), with its “Cypress Avenue” immortalised by the poet Giosuè Carducci in his verses … “the cypress trees stand straight and true in double rows…” Massa Marittima (50 km), situated on the slopes of the Metallifere hills, is a town with one of the first known sets of mining code (rules and laws), full of museums and dominated by the wonderful Romanesque-Pisan cathedral.

Lovers of good food and wine can tour the surrounding area by car and have an eno-gastronomic tour with tastings of local wines, extra virgin olive oil produced in the area and other local delicacies of the Maremma.
